Stuart Ford-Fennah – Group Chair

The Sustainable Workforce Group for VN Futures met on 5 July, providing a welcome boost and renewal of focus to the work of the group after a period of inactivity.

The group are enthusiastic and driven towards working on the action points identified in the VN Futures Report and Action Plan and deliver the outcomes which will assist in the future sustainability of the profession.

The group initially reviewed the previous meeting’s minutes and actions and we have developed further deliverables from these foundations.

The group will first be focusing on a pilot to create Schools Ambassadors – with the aim being to raise awareness of the VN profession, and the potential for a career in veterinary nursing, in schools and at school careers’ fairs. This project will be run with the support of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – a government initiative to encourage the younger generation to enter a career in these areas). The pilot scheme will also aim to create materials and resources for different age groups which will enable a unified approach to delivering the material and message to children of school age. More information on this pilot will be shared as it progresses – so, watch this space!

The group is also looking at increasing diversity in the profession and how we can utilise the already diverse workforce to showcase the profession. Therefore, diversity and inclusion will be at the forefront on any future actions for the group.
