This month’s board meeting was chaired by Jo Oakden as BVNA President. Others present were Belinda Andrews-Jones from RCVS Veterinary Nurses Council; Jill Macdonald, VN Futures Project Manager; Julie Dugmore, RCVS Director of Veterinary Nursing; and Nikki Ruedisueli, BVNA’s Head of Learning & Development.

Interim report

Much of this meeting was spent looking at and discussing the draft of the Interim VN Futures Report which will be published later this year and which will bring stage one of the VN Futures project to a close and look forward to stage 2.

Looking over the report gave the Board members an opportunity to consider how the veterinary nursing profession has developed in the give years since the project was launched and see some of the key achievements of the project to date.

BVNA Congress

The Board also discussed the upcoming VN Futures related events taking place at this year’s BVNA Congress (Saturday 2 to Monday 4 October 2021). These events will be run differently this year and the project will be seeking input from the profession to help launch the project into stage 2.

The two VN Futures events will be the last events on both the Saturday and Sunday at BVNA Congress and will be interactive sessions about the project, with discussion encouraged by facilitators. Engagement is key to the VN Futures project and we look forward to members of the profession attending as it is about you and the future of our profession.

What next?

The VN Futures Board will next meet on Wednesday 1 September which will also be Jo Oakden’s last meeting as chair of the board before she hands over chairing duties to Matthew Rendle, who also chairs RCVS VN Council.

Further announcements about the VN Futures Interim Report and the VN Futures events at BVNA Congress will be made in due course, so please look out for updates on the news pages!
